Gemma completed her PhD in cotutelle at The University of Melbourne in Australia and the Sorbonne Nouvelle- Paris 3 in France. Since 2016 she has held the position of Lecturer in French Studies at the Australian National University. Her research explores the representation of language as power in contemporary French film and she has recently published a book on the subject. She has presented at numerous international conferences and published with multiple academic presses, as well as film sites like Senses of Cinema and Bright Lights. She writes travel columns at Epicure and Culture and My French Life, e-books at Unanchor, and her own blog Les Musées de Paris, where she reviews the lesser-known museums of Paris. In 2021, she wrote a book about Jacques Audiard for the French Film Directors series of Manchester University Press.
